I had gastric sleeve surgery on 2.6.15. Things started off a little shaky, I didn't realize that the van driver would be in a totally unmarked vehicle; waited over two hours before being picked up. However, the driver was nice enough to return to get me.
The hospital staff was very nice and professional. The facilities were clean but not as up to date as the facilities in the USA.
Dr. Almanza was very friendly and made me feel welcomed. I traveled alone and was extremely nervous the morning of my procedure, but the staff kindly took me under their wings and the next thing I knew I was awaking in my hospital room (surgery completed). Everything went well and quick.
The only liquids that my body would accept after the surgery was popsicles, they became my friend of the next couple of weeks.
There was a mix up in my medications though, I listed all of my medications that I was taking as well as the ones that I was allergic to but the nurses kept insisting that I was allergic to penicillin, however, I was given medications/antibiotics on my ALLERGIC TO LIST and it caused an unwanted rash with much irritation to my skin. I was also sent home with that same wrong antibiotics but two days later I received the appropriate antibiotics in the mail.
After trying so many diets and nothing has worked for almost six years, this decision I made was the right one. I'm ~7 weeks out and I've lost 36lbs thus far (47/5'3 - HW: 250, SW: 244, CW: 208, GW: 150).
I thank Dr. Almanza and his staff for guiding me through this procedure and taking care of me.
Best,
Cheryl
