I had a really great experience. I traveled by myself, my parents were nervous about me going to Mexico by myself but the drivers take you everywhere you need to go, there was nothing scary about the trip. I met people on the van traveling with me and everyone becomes really close really fast. Everyone was "really", "really" nice. The other patients, nurses, van drivers, hotel & restaurant staff giving you food whenever you ask, the whole process flows very well and accommodating. The surgery was as expected, recovery is as expected, although everyone recovers differently. I would do this again in Mexico over the US ANY DAY. They know what they are doing, they get it done without all the red-tape and waiting you do in the US. They are equipped to handle unexpected issues that come with any surgery, I saw several people well taken care of with pre-existing complications. The Hospital is sufficiently nice and quite clean. I especially like that Almanza takes 80%, not the 60-70% of the stomach like the US, leaving less room for stretching later on. Thank you to all the nurses and drivers and Almanza.
I went shopping, slowly to a strip the taxi took us to. It was safe, just like anywhere there's places that are fine and others that are ghetto. TJ is quite clean I thought, I did not feel unsafe anywhere we were.
I also needed to get away and just be alone and do something for myself. This was a great trip to relax, and everyone will take care of you. I didn't want to come back home. lOl
I'm now about 2 1/2 months out, and lost 45 lbs, feel great in my clothes, and my back doesn't hurt from the weight of my chest anymore b/c it's been an all over weight loss. The liquid diet after surgery has helped me kick my carb habit and I don't even enjoy breads/pastas anymore. I'm so thankful for this, and thankful it was affordable. I've only got another 15 lbs to go to hit my goal of my Basic training weight / lowest weight ever. I was lucky to have good skin and don't have any sag or stretch marks.
My doctor has taken xrays post op and everything looks great. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
