Before having my gastric sleeve surgery, I knew a lot of people who had been to Tijuana to have the surgery done, and I was jealous of all of them! Once I made the decision to JUST DO IT, I met another girl who had lost 150 lbs. after having the gastric sleeve. When I asked her how it went, her response was, "BEST DECISION I EVER MADE!!"
I was very impressed with the facility upon arrival. It smelled so good in there - not like a hospital!! The rooms were not fancy or beautifully decorated, but they were nice enough and fairly comfortable. The one thing I did miss was a washcloth to wash my face. = | But that was probably my own fault, as I was intentionally trying to pack super light.
When I met Dr Almanza, I was very impressed with his humility and how personable he was. The nursing staff were all very attentive and caring. Before going, I had worried a little about not speaking/understanding any Spanish, but I was never made to feel like it was a big deal or any problem.
I felt the level of care I received was great. Being nearly 60 years old, there may have been concerns that wouldn't have been if I were 20 years younger. But the cardiologist came to my room the night before surgery to make sure that everything was ok with my heart and blood pressure.
Most of the things I was worried about or afraid of turned out to be non-issues. I never got nauseated, never felt much pain.
I do have a few regrets. Mostly, I regret that I didn't do this years ago! I always felt like having weightloss surgery was 'cheating' somehow. But after 50 years of failed attempts to lose weight, fouling up my metabolism and ruining my self esteem, I feel like I've been given a new lease on life.
